Mozilla developing Firefox push notification system for web

Local applications have many plus points over their web counterparts, but still Mozilla seems to reduce their gap through a push notification system which will allow websites to alert users on their desktop computer or onto their mobile phones. Mozilla developer Mr. Jeff Balogh outlined that this system is purely straightforward that implies that a website or web app is provided a unique URL for every specific user that points to Mozilla’s Notification Service. As once the users’ permits, instantly website can pass along the notifications to Mozilla’s Server that will deliver them through Firefox on either user’s desktop computer or Android device, or through Firefox Home onto the iOS (Boot to Gecko will also be supported).

Chrome offers versions of pretty similar functionality already with notifications in Gmail and other sites, but it is been observed that Chrome requires that you have to keep the notifying website open in your browser, However Mozilla’s solution would allow any website to notify you as long as you have the suitable app running on your device. Balogh warns that the service is yet in the developing stage and the API is still not finalized, but the service ensures to bring even massive functionality to websites without the requirement for additional overhead or specialized infrastructure.
